Speaker Bio: 

Ozan Kumbasar, a research assistant in Movement and Training Sciences at Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey, obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Sports Teaching from Ege University. With a strong research interest in endurance physiology, he further pursued his academic journey by earning an MA in Movement and Training Sciences at Marmara University, where he is currently working towards a Ph.D. in the program. Ozan’s passion for sports extends beyond his academic pursuits. Throughout his life, Ozan actively participated in various sports, including handball, mountain biking, swimming, orienteering, and American football. Notably, he has also demonstrated his endurance and determination by completing two Ironman 70.3 races in recent years as part of his involvement in triathlons.

Event abstract: 

This presentation will be held on Thursday, Aug  3, from 3-4 pm in Room 222 in Ingraham Hall (1155 Observatory Drive). The presentation offers an exploration of Turkish sports, delving into the traditional Turkic sports and highlighting Turkey’s achievements across diverse athletic disciplines. It concludes by shining a spotlight on internationally recognized Turkish sports figures. By the end, attendees will depart with a broadened understanding and appreciation of the sports culture that thrives in Turkey.
