WISLI Professional Development Workshop II

Description

In part two of this virtual workshop series, you will learn how your personal and professional network can serve as a support system for you in your career path. We’ll demystify the concept of “networking,” discuss strategies for identifying and expanding your network, and explore why networking matters. By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • identify who is already in your network;
  • utilize tools to expand your network to include folks relevant to your language(s) and career interests;
  • and leverage your social and professional networks to learn about and pursue career opportunities related to your language interests

Workshop Facilitator

Lydia Odegard (she/her) serves as the Language Directions Specialist in the Language Institute. In this role, she works to promote and advance language learning opportunities at UW-Madison by collaborating with campus and community partners. Lydia also provides programming and academic and career advising for bi/multilingual students on campus to support them in connecting their language abilities with their personal, academic, and career goals. Lydia holds a BA in Languages & Cultures of Asia and Gender & Women’s studies, and earned her MS in Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis, with an emphasis on Global Higher Education, from UW-Madison. Lydia brings experience in Hindi language instruction, academic advising, undergraduate admissions, and international education, and speaks Hindi and some Spanish.
